New Years Eve

OK, so I have no photos of New Years Eve. My hubby and I took the 2 boys to Watersview on Lake Gaston for dinner ( our normal hangout).

Ashleigh stayed at her Nana's with her cousin Isabel.
I am on the computer and plan to play video games with the boys after they get out of the shower. Yes, life has changed since high school and college. New Years Eve will never be the same. BUT. . . I LOVE IT! EPIC MICKEY WII here I come!

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL THE MOMS AND DADS WHO BRING IT IN WITH YOUR KIDS!!!!

December 2010 snow!

Growing up, I remember getting at least one big snow a year in Jan. or Feb. We rarely got snow before or during Christmas. For years, my kids had never seen that much snow ( maybe a flurry). The last 2 years we have been lucky to have a big snow here in NC each year, however, never a snow during December. Well, so far this December, it has snowed 4 times here on LKG. I know this is not a big deal and it is not a lot of snow, however, it is so beautiful coming down with all the Christmas decorations hanging around the house. I LOVE IT! It has truly made things for festive around here. Just a couple of photos of our last small snow. It was so beautiful and peaceful. Sat inside with all the Christmas lights on while listening toChristmas music . I would have taken more photos if my battery would not have died : (

This is Ash standing in our backyard looking at the lake. We are not very prepared for snow. She has on sweatpants and rain boots. Oh well, she had fun.

This is a holly tree outside my bedroom window. Not a sight we see often here with snow on the leave. How festive!!

Lastly, this is my Christmas tree in my kitchen. The snow was still coming down over Lake Gaston.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

Follow Me, Chicadee Fridays!!

Follow Me, Chicadee!
The Life of a Sippy Cup Mom!, Mannland5 and The Adventures of Goober Grape and Monkey Man have teamed up to cohost Follow Me, Chickadee Fridays! Each week, simply stop by at any of these three blogs for a chance to link up and meet new and exciting bloggers out on the interwebz!

Recently, I started playing with my "new" photo organized Aperture that my hubby gave me last Christmas. It is SO Awesome. I am trying to work out some things so pictures to follow later.

Running news:
Yesterday, I was FB about another race. album.php.jpg
Picasso 10k/1mile fun run. This is to benefit the Halifax County Arts Council. Kind of cool. Can't wait to see the T's. A local artist is the organizer ( who is an awesome runner). She is also designing the shirts. So. . . Lets add that to my scheduled races. Got to get motivated. Summer has been great, however, very hot. Heat index this weekend was 110. Hate it.

Have a great weekend!!!

My Scheduled Races!

Ford's Colony 10K September 11, 2010
Your first thought might be why run a race at a golf course? If you ask this question, you have not visited The Golf Club at Rocky Mount (formally Ford's Colony, Rocky Mount).

The Golf Club at Rocky Mount is less than two years old, but has already drawn a reputation as a premier golf course in the southeast. The David Johnson designed course opened in September of 2007 and is sure to become a masterpiece.

Utilizing a classic front-nine out and back-nine return routing, the course takes full advantage of the gently rolling terrain and allows for a six uninterrupted miles of wide and smooth paved paths. Runners and walkers will pass over multiple brick bridges, through several wooded paths, and take in multiple views of the 80 acre Belmont Lake along the route.

Family Fun Run 7:45 am Start: Before the 5k and 10k start, kids, and families are encouraged to participate in the 3k Fun Run. This untimed event will allow kids to race like mom and dad and cross under the same finish line arch. All this while earning a special finisher's award and getting a race shirt. All participants must register, however parents in the 5k and 10k are welcome to jog along with their children without registering twice. More details are coming soon regarding the course.

10k Race 8:15 am Start: 10k participants will begin on the private Ford's Colony entrance road beside the main fountains. Approximately 300 yards after the start runners enter the paths of the course at the first tee box. Runners will then follow the paths for all 18 holes, having a chance to see all of the beauty ofThe Golf Club at Rocky Mount. After the 18th green, runners will again enter the private entrance road and sprint to the finish line located beside the start. All turns will be clearly marked and mile markers will be posted for all six mile.

5k Race 8:20 am Start
: 5k participants will begin on the same entrance road, and will also quickly enter the paths of the course. After the first four holes, including the signature Par 3 3rd hole, 5k runners will turn down a hard packed dirt road for a few hundred yard, before returning back to the paths at hole 14. At this point the 5k and 10k course join again and runners will pass holes 14-18 before returning to the finish line located beside the start.

Medoc Mountain 10 miler!!
October 16th 2010

The Medoc trail event is comprised of two different races. All runners will share the same start and finish area, and will run on the same course. This event is located at Medoc Mountain State Park in Hollister, North Carolina, will challenge runners as they traverse wooded trails, many of which are single track. Come enjoy the amazing views while testing your endurance.

After a brief stint on the park roads to allow runners to spread out, the remainder of the race takes place on the trails through a series of loops. Runners will then enjoy fantastic views as they run close to nature, passing over and beside waterways, up and down hills, and if you are very lucky you may even see Medoc himself. Just be careful not to make him angry and never give him food.

8:15 am Medoc Marathon: Like all marathons, the Medoc Marathon will total 26.2 miles, taking in three loops of the park. Finishers of the marathon will receive a nice heavy unique race medal, long sleeve shirt, other race amenities including well supported aide stations, and food on the course and at the finish.

This is not a course you will set a PR on, so come prepared for a challenge! Don't let the loop course keep you away. This course allows for great support by the race staff, and does not feel repetitive. To be honest, when you're at mile 20 with tired legs, being familiar with the terrain, and having volunteers that know you by name is a big perk.

8:30 am Medoc 10-Miler: If a full marathon sounds like too much for you, you are invited to do the Medoc 10-Miler. We expect to see both aggressive racers looking for an age group victory, and first timers in this event. This race will fill up, so we encourage runners to enter early.

Finishers are entitled to all of the race benefits as the Marathon, which include a long sleeve shirt, a well supported course, and post race food. They will receive a finishers medal that is unique to the 10-mile event. This is a great race introduction to trail racing. Encourage your friends to try the 10-miler, and prove to them you are not as crazy as people think you are. This race is scheduled to start at 8:30 am, to allow a clear trail for runners.

And finally. . . .

Lunch time!!!

Lunch Time!

The kids decided to make there own pizza. We used whole wheat flat bread, pizza sauce, pepperoni, and of course for Andy, black olives. They had a blast.

The boys watching and waiting to see the final product. Only in the oven long enough for the cheese to melt. On later ones, I decided to place the flatbread directly on the oven racks for a crispier edge. Just your preference.

And, here it is. This one is Andy's. He ate every bit of this.
Ted's turned out perfect also.

The kids had so much fun, they decided that Friday's would be our "Pizza Making Day" during the summer.

First Weekend of Summer 2010 LKG

LKG Living. . .This past weekend we spent the days on our dock at Lake Gaston. We swam, cleaned, snacked, drank, wake boarded, tubed, and floated. Loved every minute of it. It was very hot for this time of year, however, the lake temperature was perfect.

The boys with the sidewalk chalk.
Andy boy in his pool on the dock.
