Getting to Know You

1 - Why did you start blogging?
I started blogging as a way to take time for myself and realize how wonderful life is. Sometimes putting it down in words or pictures helps me. Also, Some great ideas out there from other bloggers.

2 - Who's the one blog friend that you would want to meet most in "real life"?
Brown Eyed Bella and A Blonde walks into a Blog just to name 2. But I would love to meet them all.

3 - Why are you always concerned with losing that "extra 10 pounds" when chances are your husband/boyfriend/friends tell you that you look just fine the way you are?
Cause that's just the way it is!!!

4 - What's the one thing you wish guys could understand about you?
I don't really care if "guys" understand me at all. Now I wish my husband would understand I need him to finish his projects.

5 - Tattoos. How many do you have and how many are visible when you wear your "everyday" clothes?
I have none.

6 - What was the best year of your life and why?
Hard to narrow this down. 1996 when I married my best friend. 1999 when I graduated from UNC Pharmacy School. 2000 when I had my baby girl, 2001 when I had my 1st son, and 2005 when I had my baby boy. But really 1990 when two people feel in love for all this to play out!

7 - Name three things you would do if you were a man for one day
Ok not to sound stupid but, pee standing up, come home and eat and then sit in front of the TV while my beautiful wife helped the kids with homework, and probably think about sex all day long.

8 - What's your alcoholic drink of choice that usually raises a few eyebrows?
I am a beer drinker. It is kind of weird to go out to these "functions" and all the ladies are drinking wine or not drinking at all. All I want is a Stella or Blue Moon. I like wine but not my favorite.

That's about it!!

Nothing really to say!

Thirsty Thursday

www.hairbowsandguitarpicks.com.jpg

Ok, so I have been called a Beer Snob. I guess I can think of worst things to be called.
Here are my top 5 picks.

5. Hoegaarden, 4.9% volhoegaarden.gif
What better place to start than with an original ‘witbier’,Hoegaarden? Don’t be fooled by its cloudy appearance, the Hoegaarden is sweet tasting, and smooth. Its subtle flavours consist of a toned down spice and pepper taste that is perfectly accompanied by a slightly malty sweetness. It’s a lovely light beer sure to satisfy a worked-up thirst but not someone looking for a rugged brew.

The beer is best enjoyed in a tall, wide-mouthed glass. To serve the brew perfectly, follow these pouring guidelines. Pour the brew down the side of the glass until about one-half inch of brew is left in the bottle. Lay the bottle on its side and roll it gently back and forth, mixing the remaining yeast that has settled at the bottom. Pour the rest of the brew, producing a nice, thick collar oF foam.

Blue Moon, a Belgian-style witbier brewed by the Molson Coors Brewing Company in Golden, Colorado, was launched in 1995. In Canada it is marketed as a similar beer called Rickard's White and is brewed in Montreal, Quebec[2]. Originally called Bellyslide Belgian White, it was created by Keith Villa, a brewmaster at Coors Field's Sandlot Brewery (the onsite brewery owned by the Molson Coors Brewing Company). The beer is orange-amber in color with a cloudy appearance because it is unfiltered. It is also spiced with coriander and orange peel in addition to the hops found in most beers. Blue Moon has a more pronounced orange flavor than many other beers of the style, and also has a slightly sweet flavor. The grain bill for Blue Moon includes malted barley, white wheat, and oats.

Some weiss and hefeweizen beers are commonly served with a slice of lemon in North America. Blue Moon, however, is traditionally served with a slice of orange, as it is said to accentuate the flavor of the brew. Keith Villa of Molson Coors admitted the orange slice garnish was mostly for attention-getting when Blue Moon is served in a bar.[3] Many beer drinkers do not prefer fruit slices in their beer, since citric acid can eliminate the beer's frothy, flavorful head, and may prefer to have the brew served in a wheat beer glass instead. Finally, since Blue Moon is an unfiltered wheat beer, it is suggested to leave a small amount of the beer with sediment at the bottom of the bottle, then swirl it around in order to pour it into the glass, creating a thick head on the beer.

Blue Moon is available in bottles and kegs. The brew has 171 calories per 12-ounce serving and 5.4% alcohol by volume. However, in Oklahoma, Colorado, Minnesota, and Utah, the alcohol content of all Blue Moon beers bought in grocery or convenience stores is 3.2% alcohol by weight (approximately 4.0% alcohol by volume). Blue Moon Brews and Seasonal Brews sold in Liquor Stores are 5.4% by volume.

The back of the label reads, "Brewed with white wheat and oats, Blue Moon features a crisp wheat finish and the perfect combination of orange peel and coriander. Bring out Blue Moon's natural spices by serving it in a Pilsner glass with an orange-slice garnish." The coriander may potentiate the anxiolytic effects of the alcohol, with studies showing anxiety-reduction in mice administered with coriander.[4]

Coors does not actively advertise the fact that the brew is owned by Coors on the belief that being associated with a major national brewery would diminish its credibility among aficionados. Blue Moon is instead branded as being brewed by the "Blue Moon Brewing Company." [5]

Stella Artois (pronounced /ˈstɛlə ɑrˈtwɑː/) is a 5% ABV (5.2% in some markets) lager first brewed in Leuven, Belgium in 1926 as a Christmas brew, and named Stella after the Latin word for "star".[1]

Although Belgium is best known internationally for its ales, the so-called "table beers," the bottom-fermented pilsner lagers such as Stella Artois head the list for domestic consumption, making up almost 75% of Belgian beer production. Stella is promoted as an international brand by its brewer, AB InBev. In its home market of Belgium, however, it is marketed, priced and sold as a regular lager. Despite its success internationally, the number 1 selling beer in Belgium is its sister beer Jupiler.

In the UK and in Canada, a lower ABV version is also available, called respectively Stella Artois 4% and Stella Artois Light-Légère. This variant was launched to compete alongside fellow Inbev lager Beck's Vier and to address negative associations of the brand.[2

Running

HOP 5K RUN

TO BENEFIT

The Boys & Girls Club of Halifax County

March 27, 2010

Timing provided by East Carolina Road Racing (www.ecrun.org)

& Sponsored by The Roanoke Rapids Theatre

Location:

The Roanoke Rapids Theatre, 500 Carolina Crossroads Parkway, Roanoke Rapids, NC

Start Time: 8:30am

Entry Fee: $27.00

This is my next planned race. This is one of the 1st races in Roanoke Rapids, NC. I am so excited. I am a newbie runner. I have been running for about 8 months now. I tackled my first run in the Outer Banks at the 8K OBX run. That was a great experience. I plan to run the half-marathon in Walt Disney in 2011. That will be exciting.
Today, I ran 7.5miles in 1hr 12 min. Not too bad for a newbie. I was really hurting with about a mile to go. What keeps me going is knowing that I have a big glass of cold chocolate milk waiting for me at home. I know, the little things!!! Also, another thing that motivates me is that I have lost 12 pounds while running. So excited about that. Never really lost all of the weight from my 3 babies, but I have now. I feel better on the inside and outside. I have alot of support from my husband and my kids. My husband is going to attempt the half in 2011. Not sure when he will begin his training. My kids are going to run the 5k at Disney. Lots of fun and healthy too. I end this post with a quote that sums up WHY I RUN!

I run because it's my passion, and not just a sport. Every time I walk out the door, I know why I'm going where I'm going and I'm already focused on that special place where I find my peace and solitude. Running, to me, is more than just a physical exercise... it's a consistent reward for victory!

Manic Mondays

Yes, it is Monday again. This is the day I normally work until 7pm. I usually do not get home until about 8:30pm. The day begins with craziness of getting the kids up and ready for school, lunches packed, teeth brushed, clothes on , shoes on, back packs on, and finally they are out the door with my dear husband who takes them to school. The craziness ends for about an hour as I sip on a cup of coffee and slow down with my computer. Then I venture to the hospital and transform myself from a wife and mother to a pharmacist. This is a totally different person I become with all new responsibilities. After 9 hours of this "other world", I magically change back into the mommy and pick kids up from the various activities and continue home to become the teacher. Yes, at this point we have to finish and study for any work that has not been done before I get home. I am very obsessed with my kids school work so even if the have completed their work, I still have to check it (even if my dear husband has already done so).
Finally, everyone gets washed up and ready for bed. . . including brushing their teeth. You would think since their daddy is a dentist they would be obsessed with teeth brushing, but no such luck. After the kids finally make it to bed, I now transform into a wife. As, you can see, I cannot multitask. Some nights, I never transform into a wife and go directly to be because I am so mentally exhausted. This all may sound like a stressful way to start a week, and it is at times, but I do it all for my family. I love being a Wife, Mom, Pharmacist. Mondays come only one day a week!
